The short version

What is QElectroTech?

QElectroTech is a free, open source desktop app for drawing electrical diagrams and schematics. It runs on Windows, macOS and Linux, and the current version, 0.100, came out on 25 January 2026.

It is built mainly for electrical documentation, but you can also draw pneumatic, hydraulic, process and electronics diagrams. It ships with a collection of over 8,000 symbols. It is a drawing tool, not a calculator: there is no built-in simulation or calculation. Two French students started the project in 2007, and it is released under the GPL-2.0 license.

Bottom line: For panel builders, students and small shops that need clean schematics without a license fee, QElectroTech is a strong first pick. If you need power system studies, look at ETAP. If you need ERP and PDM links, look at EPLAN Electric P8.
