The short version

What is archive.today?

archive.today, also reached as archive.ph and archive.is, is a free service that saves a copy of one web page when you ask. Each capture keeps a working copy of the page and a screenshot.

It has run since May 2012 and it ignores robots.txt, so it often holds news pages that block the Wayback Machine. It also supports the Memento protocol, and it was one of the last big archives using it when Memento Time Travel shut down in September 2025. The catch is trust. The operator is anonymous, and English Wikipedia banned links to it in February 2026 after its CAPTCHA page was used in a DDoS attack and editors found altered captures.

Bottom line: use it to grab a copy of a page right now, especially one the Wayback Machine cannot reach. Do not make it your only copy of anything that matters.

What it does

Key features

Snapshot on demand

Paste a URL and it saves the page as it looks now. You get a copy with live links plus a screenshot.

Ignores robots.txt

It acts as the user's agent, so it saves pages whose owners told other crawlers to stay away.

Search old captures

The second search box lists earlier snapshots of a URL. It accepts insite:, quotes and the * wildcard.

Memento support

It has supported the Memento API since July 2013, so Memento tools such as MemGator can query it by URL and date.

Who it's for, who it isn't

Pick archive.today if

  • You need a copy of one page right now
  • The page blocks the Wayback Machine's crawler
  • You want a screenshot next to the saved copy
  • You do not want to sign up for anything

Look elsewhere if

  • You need a capture you can cite as evidence
  • You need PDFs, audio or most video
  • You may need a capture deleted later, since users cannot delete them
  • You are in Russia, mainland China or Finland, where access is blocked or stuck at a CAPTCHA
What people ask

archive.today FAQ

Is archive.today down?

It still runs, but access depends on where you are. It is blocked in mainland China and Russia, and visitors from Finland get a CAPTCHA they cannot pass. If one domain fails, try a mirror such as archive.ph or archive.is.

Are archive.ph and archive.is the same site?

Yes. They are mirror domains of the same service, along with archive.today, archive.md, archive.li, archive.fo and archive.vn.

Can I trust archive.today captures?

Not on their own. English Wikipedia banned its links on 20 February 2026, after its CAPTCHA page sent DDoS traffic at a blogger's site and editors found captures with altered text. Keep a second copy in the Wayback Machine.

Is archive.today free?

Yes. Saving and searching are free and need no account. The site has no paid features and asks for donations.

What can it not save?

PDFs, audio, most video and pages over 50 MB. It records text and images, captured at a 1,024 pixel browser width with JavaScript output frozen in place.

Does archive.today work with Memento?

Yes. It has supported the Memento API since July 2013. With Memento Time Travel gone, you can still check it alongside other archives by running MemGator yourself.
